FOSPE Enrichment Tuition Policy - Dade School Closure

MB SPE Enrichment Parents -

In light of the Friday March 13, 2020 announcement that Miami-Dade County schools will be closed effective beginning the week of March 16 due to the coronavirus, FOSPE would like to advise of the following:

For parents on tuition installment plans, the scheduled debit to parent credit cards on March 31 is being turned off.

5th Grade Students - If requested via email (enrichment@fospefoundation.org) by parents whose enrichment tuition accounts are current and in good standing, students will receive a pro-rated refund to account for the period of the mandated school closure.

All Other Grades - If requested via email by parents whose enrichment tuition accounts are current and in good standing, students will receive a pro-rated credit for future use to account for the period of the mandated school closure.

Parents will have 7 calendar days after the return of students to school to make their request via email.

FOSPE will execute these requests within 30 days of (1) enrichment students returning to school or (2) the date the request is made (whichever is later). If parents decide unilaterally to keep children out of school outside of the mandated school closure period, enrichment tuition will not be refunded.

When considering whether to request a pro-rated refund or future credit, we do hope parents consider that FOSPE is a volunteer- and parent-managed non-profit corporation that exists purely for the purpose of providing opportunities of inspiration for your children. Every dollar that is returned to parents is a dollar that will not be spent helping students and / or improving Miami Beach South Pointe Elementary School.

Thank you very much for your continued support and we hope all of our SPE families remain safe & in good health during these unprecedented times.

Ways to Support Enrichment Instructors

After the current school closure, a number of parents have admiringly inquired as to how they can help enrichment instructors during this difficult time. This is an act of solidarity & generosity. Enrichment instructors do an incredible job of shaping our children and inspiring them to pursue areas of passion & interest.

For many of the instructors (independent contractors), school-related enrichment classes are their sole source of income. FOSPE finds itself in the unenviable position of wanting to help instructors while also refunding or crediting parents Spring 2020 tuition during a statewide school closure without a known end date.

FOSPE would like to urge parents who are able & interested to individually reach out to their child's instructors in the event they would like to:

- assist instructor(s) financially
- enroll in one of their online & private classes (click here for a full list of activities & services)

Thankfully today's technology allows for video-conferencing as part of remote learning & working. This is a valuable tool we now have at our disposal.

If you don't already have your enrichment instructor's personal contact info, please email enrichment@fospefoundation.org and we'll provide it to you.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping enrichment instructors.

We hope all of our SPE families remain safe & in good health during these unprecedented & uncertain times.
